okay, so, today, and stuff ...
Aug. 23rd, 2004 12:36 amErr, got up pretty late, ate something, watched some DVD for a bit, then took a bus to the airport.
There was some system maintenance scheduled for today, so I was quite surprised that it actually worked when I got there.
Was a little chaotic anyway though, since quite a few customers returned their cars to me, when the stations where they'd come from hadn't actually checked out the cars yet. There was also a customer who complained about the price he was supposed to pay. Well admittedly, he returned the car two days earlier than planned, so it doesn't make too much sense that he suddenly has to pay more than with those two additional days ... *sigh* ... I didn't try too hard to be helpful though, because I knew that it was the same customer who'd really got on Steffi's nerves a few days ago ... I guess I'll call Luebeck tomorrow and try to figure something out with them.
Same goes for another rental, one that had been done by hand today because of the system outage. Turns out the people at the checkout station had forgotten to get the customer's credit card details. Now that's stupid innit? They called him, but he refused to tell them on the phone, which I guess is understandable. He didn't tell me when he gave me the key either, so I only found out later. Now he's not paid for the car so far, and someone from the checkout station has left a remark in the system to do a certain type of charge thingy now, which I don't know how to do, have never done before, and have never heard of. I'm curious though, so that's something else I'll call Luebeck about tomorrow.
And then there's another car we've got at the airport, that we can't check in because it hasn't been checked out the "normal" way. It was a one-way thing from Holland I think. No active RA in our system. And even Olaf didn't know how to check it in. o_O Oh well, gotta call Luebeck about that as well then ... d; Hope Sonja doesn't do that, because I want to know how it's done.
Everything else was pretty normal today. Except that I got something back that is not considered a "car" by our system, but a "truck". Small thing really though, only difference to your average car is that it's only got two seats or something, and the rest is to put stuff in, instead of people. o_O Just a transporter really. But anyway, I guess Luebeck will want that thing, since we're not actually renting out any transporters at the airport ...
Between the 4th and 5th shift I'd wanted to get a few cars cleaned, but for most of the time the washing place was blocked by an airport fire truck (one of those really quite big ones with some sort of water cannon thingy on top). Someone was cleaning that thing. Took like half an hour, so I spent that time eating something at the airport restaurant ...
I had one reservation on the late flight, but the customer only turned up to tell me that he didn't need the car any more. I thanked him for telling me, saves me the bother of sitting there till our closing time waiting for him. o_O
In the end I decided to close at 10pm. Closing time is 10.15, but staying those 15 minutes is absolutely pointless. I mean, by that time they usually turn off the lights in the departure hall (which is where our counter is). The only people still at the airport at this time are the cleaning staff and the poor soul manning the airport info desk.
And after all, our boss forgot to change the opening times for Sunday. According to our system, and quite possibly the internet, we close at 7pm, and open at 8am the next day. So, we were closed officially anyway d;
The advantage of leaving early, of course, is that my favourite Sixt girl took me home (: ((: (((:
Oh, and one customer today noticed my book, The Runaway Jury, and asked whether I was a law student o_O ...
Tomorrow I'll be doing 2nd - 5th shift as it seems. I don't seem to quite understand our work schedule lately. *shurgs* Steffi has asked me to do 2nd and 3rd though, and 4th and 5th would've been mine anyway, so I guess that's quite right.
There's one reservation early tomorrow, so that'll be Sonja's, the other 5 reservations will be mine. Nothing too spectacular though, except for one in the evening which according to the remarks is a VIP customer. Not that I care too much really though, he's booked an automatic Golf sized car, so he'll probably get that A6 that's sitting on our parking lot. He'll better be happy about getting that sort of car!
I turned down the cooly thing in my fridge earlier today, hoping to get rid of those glaciers that've formed in there lately. o_O I hope I've put enough towels around it, the whole thing is melting now. I've removed everything that doesn't *have* to be inside, and as to the milk, butter and eggs, I guess I'll see whether they survive being not quite cold enough for a day or two. *shurgs*
Next Wednesday and Thursday I'll be at Christian's and Alexandra's place. We're planning to visit our former teacher and set up her new computer. Maybe we'll go see some Pink Floyd related laser show thingy in Hamburg too.
Oh and have I mentioned that I've decided to remove my credit card from my wallet? It's just too easy it seems. It's got my signature on the back, and anyone who can manage to make a semi-decent copy of that signature can use it to buy stuff. No one will manage to use it on an ATM, because of the PIN (shesh, I probably wouldn't be able to use it on an ATM, since I can never remember its PIN ...) ... But you can shop with it. And I don't like that.
Oh, and when I tried paying for my pair of jeans a few days ago, it turned out that my EC card is not accepted at places that don't require its PIN for paying. There's two ways to pay by EC card apparently, one is entering a PIN into the system when paying, the other is just putting your signature under a receipt thingy or something. And my card doesn't appear to be accepted on systems that work with just the signature.
I really quite like that ... Means the card is useless to anyone stealing it, even though there's my signature on the back. It only works with a PIN ... d:
Fascinating innit? d;
Guess I better stop now and go to bed, I was already quite tired when I got here, and that's 2 hours ago now ... o_O
