So, I downloaded that RA3 beta. From thepiratebay instead of fileplanet, since it was quicker that way (I don't really get why corporations don't embrace bittorrent to spread files. I had to wait in line for 30 minutes at fileplanet just for the download to start. By that time the BT one was halfway done ...).
So, 745MB later, I "check for updates" via the game launcher, there's one available, 855MB. That in itself wouldn't be too bad I guess, but unfortunately the auto patcher continuously failed to actually complete the download. Yay. So I visited the support forums and found a download link the manually get and install the update. So another half hour later, I'm installing that, and launch the beta for the first time. I try to login, but of course I'm missing the required EA ID. So I go there, and sign up. The website is horribly slow. They seem to be using a separate server to host images, but it's dead. So such buttons as "confirm" and "continue" fail to show up, which makes the process of signing up an exercise in futility.
Anyway, I eventually manage to create an account, I go back to the game, enter my details, log in, accept the TOS that aren't actually readable because of screen size and missing line breaks, and finally ...
... I get an error message. A very cryptic one. One that about a million other beta testers are getting too, but that hasn't been officially adressed in the support forums.
I ran across some non-official solutions to the problem, like changing your password (the "change password" button on ea.com is an image too, btw ...), trying an all uppercase or all lowercase online ID, forwarding ports through the router (I tried setting my computer as DMZ, didn't do any good though), and disabling firewalls and AV software.

Nothing helped though. So I lost a few hours to that beta without even getting the damned thing to work.
The song that plays in the background sounds nice though. Reminds me of Hell March.

don't click if you kinda dislike spiders ... )

So, I've had this spider sitting on the ceiling for several days. Today, when I looked up, I saw about a dozen tiny dark spots in its net around it, and I wondered "where did it find this many tiny flies within one day, and how did it manage to catch them up there in the corner?". Well, turns out, they're really tiny baby spiders.
It even appears that the parent is still holding several eggs ...

Awww. cute ... d;
