Hum. Turns out the hdd I bought still has that buggy firmware.
Or, had, rather. The update tool Seagate is offering on their webpage is quite comfortable to use now. Still, it did update the firmware on both my hdds, even though one of them already had the latest firmware. Good thing they're both compatible to the firmware. I've read a while ago that Seagate's tool tried updating incompatible firmwares / hdds too ...
