If it seems I've been inactive in LJ land it's because at any given time I'm either:
  • At work.
  • In bed.
  • In Ferelden.
I finished Dragon Age for the first time yesterday, playing as a Rogue. My character managed to reach level 23 during the final boss fight. And of course you can't assign attribute or skill points while in battle, so that was not really at all useful.
Anyway, you'd have to look real hard to find something to complain about in that game. I dislike how you have to be online in order to play the DLC. I guess it's neccessary, but I'd much prefer if I could just buy those add-ons and give them to Chrischi, who doesn't have internet access. I feel he's missing out, both the Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep are very well done and should be part of every playthrough. Shale is probably my favourite character of them all.
At the end of the game you get the chance to talk to all of your companions one last time. Wynne talks about Shale, and what she says reminded me Torment. I wonder if that was intentional.
I restarted this evening, playing a female elf mage. I think I'm going to go for blood magic / arcane warrior / evil bitch with her. Let's see how that works out.

What else is going on in my life then?
Well, it's already been a month since I moved into my new place. Time really does fly doesn't it? I felt at home though pretty much right away. Don't know why, but I really like it here. People here are different from Lübeck. A lot less formal, more open, easier to get along with. Husum is a lot smaller than Lübeck too, a lot of shops don't even accept credit cards, which seems weird to me.
Traffic is different too, but that's actually quite irritating to me. You're allowed to go 50km/h in town usually. In Lübeck, you're considered an obstacle if you go at that speed (it's even worse in Hamburg, but I'm not driving there too often fortunately). I was more used to drive at around 70km/h. Now, here it's entirely normal apparently to go between 30 and 40 when 50 is allowed. People are just very very relaxed when driving here. Drives me mad!
Work is ... Well, work. We could really do with a few extra customers per day. We're getting some positive feedback though, things are looking up, and Steffi is doing everything she can. So I hope we'll be fine in a few months.

My new headphones ... What is there to say about those? I half expected to be disappointed with them. They did cost 500€ so they'd have to be pretty awesome to live up to expectations.
But it turns out, they really are. Before I had them, I'd considered Steffi's BMW the best audio experience. Chrischi's Mercedes has a very high quality audio system as well, but then he uses the built-in hdd to playback mp3s a lot so you can't really properly experience the audio system.
The headphones now, they're as close to perfect as I expect to ever experience music. You hear everything there is to hear, without having to turn up the volume much and then concentrating to hear the less obvious bits.
Additionally, they isolate from outside noise pretty well. Last week I was using them while vacuuming my place. In the middle of it I stopped to check that the vacuum was actually turned on because I couldn't hear it at all. And I hadn't had the music turned very loud either.
Lastly, they fit just perfectly. They're comfortable to wear, you hardly feel them in your ears at all, yet they sit tight even when moving and pulling on the cables. You never have to readjust them.
Verdict: Pricey, but damn well worth it!

Intel finally released their SSD firmware a few days ago, after pulling a faulty version of it a month ago. I installed it earlier today. Of course you can't really tell any difference in performance but as far as I understand it helps keeping performance up after prolonged use of the drive.
I formatted my former system drive (back from when I still used Vista) and I'm now using it to make backups of the SSD. You know, just in case. Having backups is a good thing.
I finally bothered to put up my spare copy of Win7 on eBay. It's at 35.50€ now with 3 days to go. Let's see how that works out ...

I'm listening to Oceansize at the moment. I heard a while ago that they'd been supporting Porcupine Tree some years ago, so I decided to give them a try. Ordered their current, limited edition 3 DVD, 4 CD box set. Sounds nice so far, but I haven't heard enough yet to really say what I think of them.

And that's all for now.
Meeting Chrischi and seeing Ray Wilson in concert tomorrow. Yay!
