normalised ...
Apr. 2nd, 2010 01:22 pmhttp://www.normalisr.com/?username=inane grabs my last.fm stats in xml format and uses musicbrainz data to estimate how much time I've spent listening to each of my top 50 favourite bands.
That's something I've wanted last.fm to do for years.
There's a downside of course. normalisr.com uses an average track length over all tracks of a band. For example, it appears that the algorithm assumes that an average Pink Floyd song is a little over 5 minutes, it does not take into account that my favourite Floyd songs are between 10+ and 25 minutes.
I get how calculating from individual track length would take too long server side. Someone should write a program that does that on your computer instead though. Would probably take a bit to calculate (especially since you'd have to grab track data for thousands of tracks off musicbrainz) but it'd end up a lot closer to reality.
